So for those that follow me on snapchat – shapesndshadow , will know I headed away on holidays to Lanzarote the second week in January. We decided back in August 2017, we wanted to head away after Christmas with kids and also wanted to take my mam away, treat her for all her help that year and let her relax. So we had been researching places for weeks and weeks. We wanted somewhere that wasn’t going to be too cold or too hot for the kids and not to far to travel. Out of all of the reviews Lanzarote was coming up as the best place to go, at that time of year. We knew whether wouldn’t be guaranteed but we where just happy to be getting away with the kids.
*Just before I begin. We paid for the holidays ourselves.
Package holidays were a lot more expensive, so we booked everything separate and saved over €500. Flights we booked through Aer Lingus Costing us €800 inc bags for 3 adults two kids (3) , one child free as my youngest had only tuned 1, for ten days. Which I thought was really good.
When booking with Aer Lingus we had a couple of choices for flight times for flying out and returning home. I wanted the Journey for the kids to be as easy as possible, so we opted for the early morning flight 7.05am from Dublin – Lanzarote. Which ment we where up super early and the kids were exhausted by the time we boarded the flight and they slept for three hours out of the 3 hour 40 minute flight, which was brilliant. On the way home we choose the 5.50pm fight and again both slept for the entire flight. The staff on both flights travelling over where so helpful and couldn’t do enough to ensure the kids where okay with bottles etc.
I did pack the hand luggage with the Ipad , snap cards , colouring books etc. My husband also picked up the Trunki Trixie from Halfords for my three-year old for her hand luggage and something for her to ride on in the airport. It’s the best thing we ever bought she absolutely loved it and it kept her occupied . While all of her holiday clothes sat perfectly into the suitcase , it was still so light weight for her to use around the airports. It also contains a strap so you can keep hold of the little ones.
Travelling with small ones can be daunting especially when they are still in buggies. Lacey who is three has been out of her stroller since she was around 16 months old, but I kept her buggy as spare just incase. For my son who has just turned 1 in december, I have the I candy Peach Royal and while I absolutely love it, I just knew it was too bulky to bring with us and knew Lacey might need her stroller incase she got tired. Just as well I kept her buggy, because she did get tired from walking and wanted to be in her buggy. Anyway I started to research some of the new pockitt strollers for Jordan and came across the Mothercare XSS Stroller.
It only arrived the week we travelled and it was only then I realised it didn’t recline back. I went back to check on the site and again it didn’t mention it. But it worked out in the end as we had the spare buggy. I bought The XSS Stroller on offer on Mothercare for €109. Even though it didn’t recline, it was the handiest little buggy ever. It sat perfectly into the overhead compartment on the plane. Suitable for 6months – 15kg so my two sat perfectly into it and the buggy was still so light.
Rent a Car!!!
We wanted the whole trip and travelling to be as easy as possible for the kids, so we booked a rent a car through Cabrera Medina .
We booked a family car, for 10 days, fully comprehensive including two car seats for €180.
Hotel & All inclusive !!!
The Hotel itself was Four Star, and that it definitely was. The Hotel and the grounds were spotless and constantly been cleaned. The staff were incredibly helpful and so friendly. We book the H1o Suites Lanzarote Gardens through Hotels.com.
We went with the Bungalow when booking. It had an upstairs and downstairs with kitchen, sitting room , large bathroom , bedroom , safe , cot , hairdryer etc.
Rooms where so clean and freshly cleaned every morning inc fresh sheets.
We booked all-inclusive, for the offer we got we really couldn’t have turned it down. All inclusive for everyone included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, dining hall full of food and drinks for guests. I have attached some videos for you too see. There is something for everyone even the fussiest of eaters like me.
You also had the pool side bar which also had a snack menu which is also included in all-inclusive. You could also order all your drinks , ice creams , cocktails here too.
Another great thing included was the bottled water and cocktails as these can set you back a good chunk on holidays.
So we payed €1800 for 3 adults two kids – one child free, all-inclusive which works out at €200 a day for everyone €50 per person.€50 per person for breakfast , lunch , dinner , all the drinks inc , room , etc absolute bargain!!!!
The days passed so quickly , with so much to do. There was kids clubs for all ages
from 9-12 and 3-5 Monday to Saturday.
Three swimming pools , a baby pool , medium-sized pool and one large pool . Water features and slides also. The pool area was packed full of sun loungers so there was one for everyone. The pools area was spotless and cleaned every morning.
There was loads of daily activities for adults and kids happening around the complex. There was a mini disco on every night along with the nightly show, which were amazing .
There was also a laundrette and beauty salon in the hotel too.
Yes the weather is very unpredictable in January. Out of the nine days we where there we only had two overcast windy days. The rest of the days we had temps in and around 18-20 degrees. Perfect for the kids and they loved being in and out of the water.
Stuff to do in Lanzarote!!!
There is loads to do in Lanzarote. Depending what you are into there is something for everyone. If your just looking to completely switch off, then the hotel has everything you need . Here is some of the things we absolutely loved.
The beach and sea front is also a two minute walk from the hotel. There are loads more to do , these are my top 3.
Costa Teguise has loads of shops and shopping centres.
If it’s the likes of nappies and wipes your after, I would advise you to bring enough for your holiday as the prices are insane. The same with suncreams etc the prices are crazy.
If you do have baby’s still on formula, ensure you have enough. We looked and couldn’t get Aptamil over there but luckily I just had enough. If your baby is on cow’s milk, then the milk is pretty much the same and our little girl was fine on the cow’s milk.
In terms of shopping for yourself we definitely found shopping around the best. Prices vary hugely from shop to shop. I Picked up a Guess bag and purse for €110 , which would have cost me €300 or more here. I also got perfume again which would have cost me €90 here and was €50. My husband also picked up a pair of Rayban sunglasses for €110 , which are €300 here.
Be mindful when shopping in some shops as we noticed some camera shops changed their prices daily.
All in all it was an absolute amazing holiday, we had a brilliant time and are already planning another trip back to the same place next year. I would highly recommend Costa Teguise and in particular the H10 suites lanzarote the hotel is incredible and by far the best Hotel i’ve ever stayed at.
I really hope you enjoyed this post ,
