Hey everyone ,
In today’s post we are talking all things teeth. I know teeth of all things. But for those who don’t follow me on snapchat and instagram, won’t have a clue what I’m talking about.
Since a very young age I have always had a massive fear of dentists, I think we all do. I still remember going to the public dentist while in primary school, having fillings done and passing out after. I’ve had some horrible experiences throughout the years, which made me a lot worse.
I wasn’t blessed with the most perfect smile as a teenager, so I had braces put on when I was 14. I was delighted with how they turned out but again anytime I felt a pain, I would delay the dentist for ages, because of my fear. This left me with even more problems, so much so I had to have some of my teeth extracted as they couldn’t be treated.
One tooth in particular was one of my side teeth. One which you can see when I talk, smile, laugh etc. Again I had it removed 4/5 years ago and just couldn’t bring myself having anything done to it because of my fear. Even for my wedding day and thats one of the biggest day’s of your life. I went to get opinions, but never went any further because of fear.
After a lot of recommendations on social media , I opted to go for a consultation with My Dental Ireland Cherrywood. I had an appointment with Dr. Ana who I honestly felt so comfortable with from the start. She was extremely calm and explained everything in detail. Step by step everything she was doing she explained.
First appointment was a Mri Scan to check the gum and bone in that area to check and see if I was suitable for a Dental implant.
After all the examinations Ana went through everything and explained everything about the dental Implant and my options.
Ana explained that I needed a bone graft which is when your jawbone isn’t thick enough or is too soft, you may need bone grafting. She also explained that and artificial bone will be used.
First surgery I honestly was petrified but once I was numb I honestly could not feel a thing. I don’t want to go into to much detail about what happens incase some people are squeamish but all in all I was done in a hour. The implant is inserted into the gum and the gum was stitched up.
This is an image of my implant below.
I was put on antibiotics just in case of infection but I thankfully didn’t get any infections. I also had some stitches in, which had to be removed 14 days later.
Pain wise after to be honest was very little , which is not what I expected. The only thing I did feel was pressure in my jaw. There was no need for me to take any painkillers or anything afterwards.
Once the metal implant is placed in your jawbone the healing process begins . During this process, the jawbone grows into and unites with dental implant. This can take several months, depending on the area of the mouth. Mine was three months.
Three month had passed and I was back for my second surgery but I actually wouldn’t call it a surgery I was in and out in 20 minutes. I was numb and and the gum is re-opened. A small metal cap is ( Healing Cap) is placed onto the end of the implant the is to allow the gums to fully heal for another few weeks.
I was back in October for some moulds and shade matching for my crown. This would take three weeks to come back and then it was fitting time.
Fitting of the crown and the finished result !!
Three weeks had past and it was finally the day the implant would be finished. It was absolutely perfect. The fit, the colour everything. I honestly could not be any happier with how it all went and turned out. Apart from. walking away with a new smile , more confidence and some of my personality back I’ve 100% lost my fear of dentists.
I have attached my before and after above. Iv also attached the link for price lists too Here..
I would definitely book in for a consult if you have any further questions . The consultation is free and they will explain everything to you.
I honestly could not recommend My Dental in Cherrywood enough they are so understanding and patient which I think is key. I never felt under pressure or rushed.
